A quality, flexible K-12 education with creative socialization solutions is part of what's making distance-learning and online school increasingly attractive, according to a September 2009 article in the Ventura County Star entitled More Kids Logging On To Online Courses.

Laurel Springs School, with headquarters in Ojai, is featured with testimonials by a student athlete and her parents, as well as a local parent simply seeking a challenging education for her children.  Socialization is a highlight in the article:

Laurel Springs School, an online K-12 program based in Ojai, addresses that issue by requiring students to take electives in the community, such as sports activities, community service or church participation. “Socialization can take place in many places and ways,” said Marilyn Mosley Gordanier, founder and executive director of Laurel Springs. “School is not the only place.”
